European Parliament publishes draft report on ESA review

On July 17, the European Parliament published draft reports (omnibus regulation/omnibus directive/amendment to regulation) on the review of the European Supervisory Authorities (ESA). The ESA review concerns the governance, the funding, and the supervisory powers of the European Banking Authority, the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). It also concerns the review of the European Systemic Risk Board. These reports do not represent the final position of the Parliament, but the two co-rapporteurs for the reports expressed their willingness to finalize the file before the end of 2018. The deadline for amendments is August 30. ISDA is coordinating with the Futures Industry Association and the Association for Financial Markets in Europe to prepare draft amendments. The consideration of amendments in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs of the Parliament is expected to take place on October 1, and the committee vote is expected for October 5.
ISDA responds to EC reporting consultation

On July 17, ISDA responded to the European Commission (EC) consultation on the EU framework for public reporting. The response stressed the importance of the International Financial Reporting Standards as a single reporting framework that strengthened confidence in financial reporting, reduced the costs of reporting for entities with multinational operations and promoted the free movement of accounting personnel.
